I started Janae’s Closet in July 2020. I am originally from Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University. I am an author of five books and have two degrees, Media Arts and Studies, and Broadcast Journalism. My 9 year old daughter and I reside in California. She loves to draw and do gymnastics. She is full of energy and is very loquacious! She is so smart and talented. She draws sketches and fashion gowns. She says she wants to be either a fashion designer or social worker when she grows up.
I am so passionate about everything that I do. I truly put my heart and soul into my work.
The inspiration for my clothing started off as a way for me to design author merchandise to expand my brand as an author and writer. I fell in love with the idea of designing fashion apparel for men, women, and kids. I wanted to bring a bit of street flair to everyday life.
My designs are urban apparel for your unique style. They are a cross between urban and classy. I take pride in the fact that my designs are all individually created by me and won’t be seen anywhere else. I love designing all Janae’s Closet pieces myself because I get to see firsthand exactly how everything will look.
Each of my pieces is made with the highest quality. I put love and care not only into every design, but all the way through the order, shipping, and delivery process as well. I stay up to date with all my customers and keep in contact with them after delivery to ensure complete customer satisfaction. Because I am a small company, I am able to show genuine care and concern for each and every aspect of my business. Whereas with a larger brand of clothing, they cannot take the time to pay attention to minor details with the overwhelming amount of products they mass produce on a regular basis.
I design everything myself and work with a company, Kin Custom, to manufacture each piece after I have designed them. They sew the pieces together and place them in the proper packaging with our logo on them. Then they ship to my customers as soon as an order has been placed.
With fall coming up, I have various men’s windbreakers, and a new Hip-Hop Legends Collection for the new season. I also have beanies, hats, sweaters, jackets, lots of cozy and warm pieces. I have plenty of women’s jackets and hoodies as well.
My goal with this business is to bring awareness to more niche styles and show that black designers have unique designs that are trendsetting. We are creating styles different from every typical look that is out there on the market right now.
I have only been in operation for about one month and I have so much hope this will continue to grow and expand very far into the future.
