Meet the founder behind Home Jewels Co, Astyn Gould. Based in London, she discusses what made her start the brand and her passion for the eco-friendly and sustainable industry. Enlightened by an article one day that highlighted how most candles are produced and sold nowadays. It taught her that these candles are made using paraffin wax and fragrance oils containing phthalates, which are by-products of petroleum refining that can have negative impacts on your environment and health.
After learning that her love of candles could be releasing pollutants into her home, she began making her own as a hobby. The health-conscious entrepreneur has been extremely fortunate enough to watch that little hobby of hers grow and develop into Home Jewels Co. A hand-poured soy candle and wax melt company designed and catered for the eco-conscious consumer.
Home Jewels Co. uses 100% organic soy wax, essential oils, and phthalate-free fragrance oils to produce the indulgent fragrances many have grown to love, and they do so by working directly with UK suppliers. Soy candles are made from soybeans, a naturally renewable source and are ‘clean-burning’. No toxins! No pollutants! And they have the added benefit of lasting up to 50% longer than average store-bought candles containing paraffin.
Astyn is often asked how she makes her candles and wax melts, to which her response is always, “Melt & Pour”. Behind it all, there is a lot of hard work involved, and good old-fashioned trial and error. To ensure the best results she relies heavily on product testing to make sure the best scents are put forward.
The aim of the brand was to create an affordable home fragrance line for the eco-conscious consumer. In turn, she ended up educating the market on the benefits of eco-friendly and sustainable swaps whilst helping them indulge in a luscious range of scents for every mood.
