Here is creator Marilyn Quinones to tell us more about her natural brand of skin care, Seli Han Skincare:
I started Seli Han Skincare in the Winter of 2020. It was the year I was going to turn 40 years old! One of my goals was to have my own skincare company. I filed for an LLC in February 2020 and knew it was time to go live with my skincare line.
I grew up with my grandmother and my mother. She became very ill with a hernia and had severe acid reflux issues that put her at high risk to aspirate and increased her chances of death.
Because she was over 65 years old and had many health issues, she didn’t qualify to undergo surgical treatment. She decided to see a naturopathic doctor. He put her on a very strict fiber and plant based diet and added natural supplements to her diet.
It was a long few years but she got better and is currently thriving at 97 years old.
In 2016, I was diagnosed with metastatic papillary thyroid cancer and the diagnosis really broke my heart. All I could think about was my 2 year old daughter at the time and not being able to see her grow up.
Thoughts of what I did to get cancer took over me but the amazing support of my husband, family, friends and doctors from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center didn’t let me sink into depression.
Currently, I get regular checkups and cross my fingers every year to get a clean bill of health. I made it my priority to feed my body and skin with as much natural based products as possible.
Vegan friendly skincare became my routine especially to help me soothe my surgical scar. Shea butter was a big part in soothing and reducing the visibility of my scar.
I treasure and I am grateful to use the gifts of Mother Earth in my skincare. All of the ingredients I use are ethically sourced, never tested on animals and fair trade.
As a mom, running Seli Han Skin Care with my two daughters, Selina Luna (7 y/o) and Hannah Sol (3 y/o) has shown them that they have a voice to make decisions. They are able to make decisions and give their opinions on what they like, the flavors that inspire happiness in them and the colors that make them say “Oh wow!”
I usually sell kids products in the fall through spring months because the ingredients are more temperature sensitive.
