After many years of dealing with rosacea, eczema, and hypersensitive skin, I took matters into my own hands to create a product that could calm my skin, provide aging support, and help me cut out all of the other extra products that were in my routine. It also had to be safe enough to use during my pregnancy at the time. After two years of product development with a chemist, and multiple variations and testing, our line of natural products for sensitive skin was born.
Iremia means calm in Greek, where I had my honeymoon. It was a word that represented the calm and stillness I felt during that time. I wanted to capture that feeling and make it part of our brand ethos.
Our Soothing Lotion was the first product that we formulated. It came to me as I was coming out of my miscarriages, and encountered a negative reaction to another product I was using to try and help with my eczema and rosacea. It was also after years of doctors and dermatologists telling me they didn’t know what was wrong with the raised, red patch on my face and had put me on oral and topical steroids. I was frustrated and decided to create something from scratch that would help with my skin. I was fortunate enough to find an amazing chemist at the time, and after about a year and a half of working off the ingredients I had in my head, testing and refining, we were able to get the formula right. Our products are formulated with non-GMO ingredients, and we take a very slow and meticulous approach to the creation process. It really speaks to the ethos of the brand, to be mindful of whether we really need to add more to our routine. How can we simplify without sacrificing efficacy? How can we best deliver what our skin needs without adding more to our routine (so we can spend time indulging in what we already have)? These are some of the questions I ask myself early on in the formulation stage.
Our key ingredients revolve around helping to calm the skin and reduce inflammation. For example, we use aloe, calendula, Manuka honey, shea butter and beeswax in our Soothing Lotion to really infuse your skin with vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants and flavonoids. They are nourishing, hydrating, and so important for the strengthening of compromised skin. Our African Mahogany tree bark extract rounds it out by providing anti-aging support to help with fine lines, pores, and wrinkles. So what you get in the end is a product that helps you achieve multiple goals in one product.
With so many ingredients to choose from, we feel that we have combined the most impactful ones in our formulas to help with sensitive skin. By working with a chemist, we have formulated products that are gentle, don’t clog pores, and are completely natural. We have been certified by CertClean, North America’s leading certification for non-toxic products. I personally have experienced a big improvement in managing my rosacea and eczema with the products, and same with both my children. We always test out the products on our own skin before launching, and they are never tested on animals.
